Possession

You said you don't want to share me with anyone else.
You said you want me all for yourself.
I am not a possession to be owned.
I am a free and vibrant spirit whose fire needs to be tended lightly
letting it burn ever brighter.
Fan the flames of my spirit with loving freedom and it will illuminate your life with a love
and radiance unlike any other.
Your energy of possessiveness is a fire extinguisher. Why would I choose that?
You want all of me, or nothing.
Your ‘all’ would see me burning less brilliant.
In time, your ‘all’ would feel like dying ashes.
Ignite me, not smother me.
Inspire me, not trap me.
Open me up, not shut me in.
Offer me freedom and feel me stay.
Hold me lovingly and gently in your hands and watch me blossom.
True love is the fuel that makes both of us burn brighter.
The energy of possessiveness suffocates and destroys.
Real love requires courage. It is freeing, not covetous.
I respect your choice of nothing.
As for me
I shall continue to burn
ever brighter
as I let go
with love.
